The Three Minute Thesis Competition -- Anny

It’s my first time to watch The Three Minute Thesis Competition--the 3MT heat for business subjects on the 4th of July. Unfortunately, I didn’t follow the presenters, which made me a little discouraged. How to improve the English listening and speaking ability? The idea stuck in my head.

Although I didn’t understand what the presenters said completely, I observed them carefully. The first speaker, Holly Bates Williams, was better than the second one. In my opinion, one of the main reasons is that the article of the thesis ‘Wildlife Tourism: Bridging the Gap Between Social Media & Reality’ is more attractive than ‘Do UK Charities Perform Better with Women Trustees’, especially to the non-specialist audience. I guess many of us were unfamilar with the latter, but knew a lot about the former. In addition, Holly’s manner, language, and gestures was better.

3MT is a very good way to develop students’ academic, presentation and research communication skills. It’s a great challenge for them to effectively explain their research in so short time. It is worth learning from and give me lots of inspiration.
