The 3MT Competition -- Momoka

I watched the 3TM competition for the first time. I didn’t even know it existed. It was very interesting experience. I was impressed by their courage to explain their research in three minutes in front of a large audience. The presenters had to summarise the content within 3 minutes, so they spoke quite quickly and I didn’t understand much of what they said. However, I learned things other than the content, like way to speak and body language. In my personal opinion, the presentation of Arung  was especially excellent. She spoke clearly and confidently. She also spoke with emphasis on important points and her body language was easy to understand even from a distance. I think I will have opportunities for presentations and debates in the future, so I think I will be aware of what I have learnt this time.

Clubs Day Debrief -- Cathy

I was so excited to go to the Clubs Day on the 18th July. Back then, I had never been to any event like clubs day, which made me more curious about what would be there, how would everything work, etc. Moreover, I thought that I had enough confidence or good English to communicate with people at the Clubs Day, in other words, I thought I was well-prepared, but it turned out that the practical was so much harder😓. Thankfully, yesterday I had Toko and Hana supported me a lot, which I really appreciated.  When we first arrived, I kinda felt overwhelmed by how big and imposing, how crowded and busy the event was. Therefore, I got really scared and anxious to talk, or even to walk around alone. I told Toko and Hana that I wanted to see the Dance Club, we passed by there for a couple of times, but because of my fear, we didn't stop to ask for more information.   Hello, I’m Riko Fujimoto from Osaka, Japan. Now I live in Green Island with Lisa. She is a good cook so I eat delicious dinner. Firstly, I’ll describe about my impressions of Dunedin especially people, they really like exercise and sports. This is because the gym is always busy and even elderly people run at a park in the morning, which was amazing for me. Secondly, I’d like to say about my favourite subject, it was mathematics and geography. I haven’t had a big problem with studying mathematics and geography is extremely interesting. The reason I ‘m doing this course is that I have to do it and want to improve my English skills. Next, about my preference, I like handcraft, colorful clothes, and delicious food but I dislike big sound and loneliness. I’m optimistic I think it’s my good point. On the other hand, my bad point is that I don’t work on things thoroughly. Finally, my goal is making my life here fabulous. Thanks.
